Crocheron Pond Clean Up

In September of 1972, college student and local activist Glenn Heller's campaign to clean up Crocheron Park Pond was a great success. Photojournalists from the Long Island Daily Press captured images of Robert Gambon raking debris from the bottom of Crocheron Park Pond.  

Polluted water was pumped out of the pond. After removing all debris, 21 truck loads according to a Life Magazine article. The crew, including Lieutenant Martin C. Heyer of the FDNY,  then filled the pond with fresh water.
